Now that we know schools aren't an issue, we can recommend parts of Gary or EC you might like. You won't be right next to the casinos, though.
Well...trolling can be funny. Honestly, trolls usually amuse me. As long as it's not done in excess...

Anyway, I'm not thinking of moving to Gary (or anywhere near there) anytime soon...however, I located a neighborhood within "biking distance" (perhaps even "walking" distance) to the casinos, linked in the last post. Does anyone have any personal experience there? Is it really that bad?

You live in Duluth Minnesota and want to move to East Chicago and bike to work.

That's going to be a whole lotta culture shock going on.

That area that your targeting is the Harbor. They're trying to revitalize that whole neighborhood - whether or not they'll be successful remains to be seen. Here's some info: North Harbor Development | CIty of East Chicago (http://www.eastchicago.com/departments/economic_development/north_harbor_development.html - broken link)

The ONLY reason I'm posting that link is for someone else who potentially would like to find info on that part of EC. I really don't believe for a second you're moving to Indiana ... there's no family, no teenagers, no upper-level mgmt job ... just a little boy who cried wolf.

Haha I think it's funny. Anyway people are exaggerating how bad it truly is. I guess I can agree that you wouldn't want to live there because of break ins, but it isn't like you will get shot for walking down the street. Most of the homicides are drug and gang related.
