I'm moving to Oahu in December, and I'm looking for a job in the social services sector. I was wondering if anyone could name some non-profits on island, preferably somewhere near Pearl Harbor (like Aiea, Pearl City or Ewa) or the western part of Honolulu (although I'm open to jobs that are farther out). I am a recent college grad with a Bachelor's degree in social work, which means I can pretty much work for any non-profit or government agency that helps people - this could be anything from child or elder protective services to positions working with people with disabilities. Also, if anyone happens to know some places that are hiring that just want a Bachelor's degree and aren't concerned about the specific major I would love to hear about those jobs.
THE federal government hires social workers to work with the military and their families but a BA won't do much for you. You might want to finish your MA/S before moving; otherwise you're looking at a very poorly paid job in an overcrowded field. (Just like in California!). Good luck.
yeah, I've been realizing that my BA is pretty much useless. I'm planning on going to school at UH Manoa for my masters and want to move out there early to get residency...looks like I'll be waiting tables for a while :/
A good approach. Allow plenty of time even for finding a waitposition. Times are hard. Best of luck to you.
