Let's hear from all the Hawaii public school teachers who are disgusted with the HSTA and would like to replace them with a better union.
I do hope you know that if the majority of HSTA members voted to decertify the HSTA union, they're fired and the teachers could at least save themselves $700+/year dues.
The teachers could then petition another union (such as UHPA or HGEA) to represent them.
Every single teacher I talked to this year is totally disgusted and fed up with the HSTA.
Would you like to actually do something about it?
I was in a federal technician's union - not a lot of teeth left in that dog - anyway I decided to get out of the union and save the money. Are there any teachers who don't belong to the union?
HSTA is a closed shop. Thousands of teachers would bail if they were given the chance, but union dues are subtracted out of your paycheck by the State before you even get your hands on it. HSTA is a joke and everybody knows it. Too bad public school teachers are all sheeple who vote for anything Democratic and always do what they're told. $700/year mandatory dues -- for nothing.
Looks like most State and City & County workers are unhappy with their respective unions right now. First furloughs and now 5% pay cuts and step freezes for several years. Not to mention skyrocketing healthcare premiums. All that's left is paid holidays and the inability to be fired.
I thought Robert Preston would enjoy todays article in the Star Advertiser:
"The head of the Hawaii State Teachers Association says he's "pleased" with the findings of a new national report that shows HSTA is the strongest teachers union in the nation."
