We're a dual military couple getting stationed this upcoming summer on Oahu. One of us will be working at Ft. Shafter and the other at Schofield Barracks. Does anyone have any recommendations on what communities we should look at living in? We have heard from some to live closer to Ft. Shafter given traffic and commuting issues. We appreciate any input (especially if anyone out there has been in our situation). Thanks!

Oiy, talk about opposites!!

Well traffic to/from Shafter is probably going to be the most problematic. You didn't mention other requirements such as children-schools? Are you renting or buying or staying on base for awhile? If moving off-base, my suggestions are dependent upon who won't mind the drive the most. Mililani is a good location close to Schofield; as is Ewa Beach (Kapolei/Ocean Pointe). If you want to be closer to Shafter then Salt Lake/Moanalua would be a great option. But if you don't mind splitting the difference, you should look in Aiea/Pearl City. OBTW, there is military housing in all the areas I mentioned above as well!

Good Luck!

Moanalua or Salt Lake. Are there any quarters available on Shafter? That would be the ticket.
