The Caribbean has a completely different culture than Hawaii. In terms fo scenery, however, Jamaica and the Dominican Republic are very similar. I imagine Haiti is as well. Hawaii's waters are slightly cooler and much rougher, though, and the scenery in Hawaii is more impressive.
In St Thomas there was a problem with having enough fresh water, heard the BI had that problem but doesn't anymore. In St T the "continentals" ( in Hawaii 'mainlanders' ) were the Preferred folks to hire for higher paying jobs. Also in St T there was a lot of ethnic 'discord' the French, Rasta, African, etc etc all not so much melting pot stuff going on.
No aloha what so ever. Also big time 'rock fever' just plain clostrophobia at 14 miles long 2-3 miles wide.
Great snorkeling tho!!
Opps, OP's question most like Honolulu, maybe San Jaun Puerto Rico, Oahu, I don't know, one of the British islands maybe.
