Aloha everybody, this is my first post. I've been searching the web like crazy for places to stay. My wife and I are currently in Honolulu for work (I'm a med student), but have our place only until 01/28/13. We are looking for a small place to stay (studio or 1 bedroom) in the honolulu area, preferrably near waikiki from 01/28 - 02/22. I'm frantically searching on sublet.com and craigslist every day. Trying to stay in the $2k range for that duration. I am also in the military, and we are very clean and responsible people. If you or anyone you know has an available place for that time, please please let me know as soon as possible. Please message me and I'll send my phone number. Mahalo!

We tried there too, but the prices there are the highest we've seen. Trying to stay somewhat on budget. We emailed a bunch of entries on VBRO, but no one has replied yet.

Since you need a place in a little over a week, I suggest that you check some vrbo places that have vacancies and call the owners. I would imagine that they would be willing to talk deal with you in person, especially if they would otherwise be vacant for those three weeks. After giving yourself some credibility by explaining your military situation, perhaps you could offer them something in your price range and offer to pay the utilities to help sweeten the offer.

And, worse case - book a cheap hotel, occupancy rates are near full - negotiate a long-term stay.
