It's not THAT cold in Georgia but we'd like to get a few things before we step off the plane in shorts and t-shirts. Any suggestions on affordable winter stuff? We were thinking Old Navy but I'm not big on the youngster styles and not-great quality.

My guy doesn't do thrift stores. I personally prefer thrift stores. But seriously, people come over here and dump their winter clothes. I have the set I wore in but it's not enough. We want to hit the ground running.

If you don't see "winter" clothes at Walmart, Sears, Target - you'll be challenged to find elsewhere. I'd hit that to tide you over.

Other than Macy's - which doesn't carry much - where else is there but thrift shops? Educate your guy to thrift shops. Find some sort of high end coat for him and then take him to a nice dinner on the money you saved. Feed him like that a couple of times and he'll be sending you to the thrift stores before the mall.

There's always the internet -- decent selections of winter clothing are available at L.L. Bean and Amazon.com and they ship to Hawaiʻi.

If you are a member of Costco, go to their website and order on-line. Costco is the best source of decent quality jackets for a fair price.

I don't know what they charge to deliver to Hawaii, but I just received 4 pairs of running shoes delivered to my door for free shipping from Costco (to Oregon)

There are sweaters, long-sleeved tops, jackets, etc, in Ross' Dress for Less.
You can also order from Land's End online and, if you don't like what you get, you can return the stuff to Sears.
Frankly, I was surprised at the amount of winter clothing that was available here when I first moved to Hawaii.
I think Sports Authority carries winter clothing, too---lots of people I know here go to BC for skiing.
And Vegas is cold in the winter, too. :-)
I have one warm jacket in the closet in case I have to go to the mainland when it's cold. A long-sleeved top, pair of pants or jeans, sneakers...enough for the flight. Pick up the rest when you get to your destination.
