Greetings,

I live in Lomita in the Southbay of Los Angeles next to the shipping companies and ports. I am living in my apartment temporarily until we close escrow on a funky shortsale in Kaneohe that could take up to 6 months. My stuff didn’t even fill a ¾ of a 26’ truck. I sold a ton of my furniture on Craig's List and want to bring over kitchen cabinets for the fixer. I would like to get a 20’ container because there isn’t a huge price difference in the pod sizes. The earliest I would ship the container would be mid April (when our cats are out of quarantine) and the latest would be the summer if something really delays the close of escrow. My husband already lives there and my baby and I are just waiting on the cats and closing.

I am just starting to do my shipping research but thus far, Royal Hawaiian looks to be good. If you have a tips for me, or recent pricing please send them. If you are interested in sharing a container, please email me. Again, I don’t have all my stuff together yet, but I wanted to get the word out there.

Blessings,

Shannon

The three container shipping companies are Matson, Horizon, and Pasha. Everyone else is a broker or expediter or middleman.

If you want a full service moving company to pack your goods and load them in a container for you, then you'll want a company like Royal Hawaiian.

If you are more a do-it-yourself kind of person who wants to pack and load things yourself, then contact the shipping companies at the top for quotes and details.

Good luck!

Thanks OpenD, I got a quote from Matson a while back and their rates have increased about 5%. Horizon shipped our car. I liked working with them. I saw another post from someone about bringing a moving truck to a transfer station where the crate is parked and have that company take it to the harbor. I am going to do that versus getting a street permit.

OpenD lit the flame and now I am going to have Horizon and Pasha quotes soon. Like others on there, it is a mixed bag to liquidate as much as possible or fill a container with quality things you might need. Every time my husband visits the mainland, we stuff his luggage full of stuff with a free carry on, $25 first checked back, $35 each additional checked bag. I also have shipped heavy items to him via flat rate medium rectangular box for $11.50!

Then there is www.shiptohawaii.com 's mainland office near me so I got a quote for some boxes:

Five Qty. (5) Boxes 18"X18"X28" @ 60 pounds each

$265.00 plus the Hawaii State Tax. Quote from August, so probably add 5%

If you are needing to move things from CA to Oahu over the next 6 months, please contact me. shannonpucci (at) gmail

I am open to getting a 20' container, splitting it in 1/2, 1/3, 1/4 etc. Shipping from now until June.

If you are mailing boxes, standard post isn't too bad, but there are certain sizes that can triple the postage so check with USPS.COM for rates and try adjusting the sizes a bit to see where they reduce in price.
