Most companies are going to want someone from here so they are familiar with cultural sensitivities.
I have worked somewhere where they hired some of the communications/PR staff from the mainland, but they worked them hard and fired them when they tired out.

In relation to that... I have been browsing the employee bio pages of a lot of PR firms in Honolulu and, while a high percentage are obviously native, I do see quite a few people from the mainland who work in PR in Honolulu. I think experience might override some of that... which, again, still puts me at a disadvantage.
