On Oahu (namely Honolulu), when you get into a line at grocery stores, McDonald or any fast food restaurant, library checkout lines or any lines to buy or to be serviced, are there typically long line of people maybe reaching long way out the door? Or when you visit a public restroom, are there long lines of people waiting to use the restroom most times? Long lines do happen here on mainland, but should I expect it will be longer and more often on Oahu which I believe will be the case.
What's frustrating is most lines are long because the checker feels the need to talk story to everyone or otherwise take twice as long as necessary. Truth!
When we visited Honolulu, lines were shorter and moved faster than here in Maui. The worst part is when folks right in front of you stand there and purposely block you from being able to set your stuff up on the counter, slowing everything down even more - Rude, rude rude!!!
Oh wait....nevermind, land of aloha, you can expect all kinds of small town charm.
Location: not sure, but there's a hell of a lot of water around here!

Look Oahu is a compact place. Lots of people on a little island out in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. But urban-wise it's probably no worse than any other mainland metropolis. The traffic is a nightmare, of course, but maybe not worse than other traffic-clogged cities like L.A., N.Y., Seattle. You get the idea. But if you're comparing Oahu to some countryside region outside the big cities, you'll be in for a shock.
What studephan said, traffic worse than most cities but just from a visitors point of view it seemed like for a big city it was a little above average in Not being a big deal crowds-wise in the stores, restaurants, etc. that OP asked about.

For the last 20 years, I've been living in some of the world's largest cities - Seoul, New York City, Sao Paulo...among others. I have never seen long lines anywhere goes to the doors or for bathrooms. I've never seen it either in my times in Honolulu, ever.
BASICALLY, large cities have more people, but they also have more establishments absolutely everywhere to cater to the more people. In general, I find cities to more efficient at people moving about.
I *think* your experience with cities is perhaps going to your local urban areas major league baseball games, and the immediate vicinity around a stadium just before or after a professional game? That is pretty much the only context I can imagine to have that assumption created.
In short, no worries. It does sound like you'll have some major culture shock in store for you, if you've never lived in any city before though. But long lines everywhere you go, will be the exception, not the norm.

You should try a concert at the Blaisdell Arena - Pro Bowl.......
