Given public concern about militarization of police, etc, why does HPD allow officers to wear fatigues in place of standard uniforms?

How did fatigues even come about as a uniform option?

Do any other police departments in the country allow fatigues or military style uniforms, aside from SWAT?

BTW I know that state DOCARE officers wear fatigues, but for them it makes sense because they're working out in the boonies

I only see HPD wear fatigues around this time of the year especially in Kailua with Obama in town or other very high security times and not just run of the mill days.

SWAT normally wears fatigues as their uniform, and maybe the canine units.... not sure on that last one.

I saw them in fatigues when Obama played Mid-Pac checking cars.

Possibly SWAT but didn't know HPD had SWAT

Special unit. Different clothes help differentiate them from the other HPD.

We have SWAT.

What type of outfit? Green, blue, camo? Could be any group dressed any number of ways.

I'm really not clear on what the OP was referring.

Viper: why did you think it was HPD wearing camo? Could it be military or SS?

Maybe. They were using HPD cars which could've been on loan.

Try to get a look at the emblem they wear.

My guess is DHS.
