Bonus points if it's near the beach and/or has a pool/jacuzzi.

Haven't had much luck searching online so far but the best place I've found is in Kaneohe and has 3 bedrooms, nice ocean views, pool/jacuzzi, etc. We've been to Oahu before and loved Kailua but how does Kaneohe compare? This place seems expensive to me, at $12k for a month, but I know HI is expensive. I do work from home though so will be able to take a business deduction + we'll have some friends/family visiting who will likely chip in.

Also, how is the commute from Kaneohe to Moanalua? From the research I've done, it seems like the commute from Kaneohe to Moanalua won't be too bad (20-30 mins) and she also works 12 hour shifts + 24 hour shifts so won't be traveling during rush hour.

I saw a couple other pretty nice/comparable places in Ewa beach for $4-5k for the month which is obviously a lot cheaper - but the commute may be too far for her. Thoughts?
Wow, 12k a month for Kaneohe ??? The only location I can think of for that price for a 3 bedroom would be an equestrian estate in Haiku Plantations-- at least there is a guard shack 24/7. The Haiku valleys are gorgeous and cool.

If you could rent close to the onramp for H-3 , you could be at Moanalua less than a half hour. And, if for some reason the H-3 is jammed up, there's LikeLike tunnel as a good back-up.

Living in Kailua will add on to your travel time exponentially. Plus neighborhood traffic in Kailua gets backed up on an hour to hour basis.

There are lots of areas of Kaneohe that make it no picnic to get to H3.

There is only 2 chokepoints in Kailua that one needs to avoid to have a smooth commute to H3. Kalanianaole/Kamhameha/Castle Junction and Oneawa to get to H3 - smart commuters avoid that area when the goal is H3.

The Kalama Tract, Beachside, Koolaupoku, Kalaheo Hillside, Aikahi Park, and Kaimalino neighborhoods all have good access to H3. Even the Enchanted Lake side can get to Kalaheo Ave relatively quickly and avoid the worst of the traffic.

True. Avoided those chokepoints by staying in good access to H-3 neighborhoods would be optimum. Given the choice I would choose Kailua over Kaneohe. There's a number of reasons Kailua is more desirable, including the world class beaches, of course.

We lived in both Kaneohe and Ewa Beach.

We loved Kaneohe. The commute over the H-3 was quick, unless there was an accident. 20-30 minutes is accurate. $12k/month for a rental is too much!

I would avoid Ewa Beach, while the houses are nice and the prices are lower, the traffic is awful. The commute will likely be 45-60 minutes.

Are you looking to rent a single family house? Or are you open to townhouses with a community pool?

These are some nicer townhouses/condos you could look at in Kaneohe:
Yacht Club Terrace
Poha Kea Point
Puu Alii

I just re-read OP post that they are only here one month. That might make it harder to find a rental for a short period.

I would say a house in Kaneohe would rent for $3-$5k/month, however that is with a lease. Maybe expect to pay more for short term?
