One of the biggest problems of living in Waikiki is access to cheap stores. Well, that is about to change.

The few times I stepped into Saks - I'd say to myself, no way this place will last - but it lasted far longer than I thought.

Saks is out - Target is in.

It will make for more affordable items, which is good. I think Target will look a bit out of place on that strip, though I hope it doesn't have the standard Target outward appearance.

Walked past many times … never went in. Guessing it’s 2-stories of retail floor if Target is going to set up shop there … the street level sq footage can’t hold much of a typical Target operation.

Saks is multi-level.

This will be most disruptive to many of the ABC stores - I've got to think that has put shock waves onto the mgmt team. Target will certainly undercut them significantly

That was my guess … 2 floors. Still, seems odd location for a Target. *shrug* but what do I know (or care).

If I'm Target - 1) Little to no competition in Waikiki and 2) Plenty of parking and 3) centrally located in Waikiki

Well, I mean Waikiki just doesn’t seem to be a Target kinda venue in general … Target always strikes me as a traditional low-ish middle-class family residential neighborhood kinda retailer. Waikiki is loaded with tourist condo rentals and small condo residents … not a family neighborhood.

Obviously they can adjust their flooring to have little to no baby and toddler clothing, though. And up the cheap bedding and bath and kitchenware crapola to furnish the worn out condo supplies. So yeah …

Was just in Waikiki last week...I've never been in that Saks, but I've been to other stores there multiple times. It does seem odd to put a Target there, I thought there were mostly high end stores there after they remodeled it.

I don't disagree Target is odd - I'm not a Target nor Walmart fan.

No decent grocery stores exist in Waikiki - food sales will be strong - and the entire Kuhio corridor of lowish middle class will fit Target well - they will certainly beat ABC store prices - and tourists and residents of Waikiki will flock to the store in my opinion.

I think it will be packed.

Heh … not hard to beat ABC … “Packed?” … more I think on it, the more I think you might be right ‘bout that.
