Hello,
I will be moving to Oahu in Jan. I have been to Hawaii every year for the past 20 years and am finally ready to make a move. I am looking in the Hawaii Kai area and thinking of Kaiser High School for my 14 year old daughter. I'm not too familiar with the area and the public schools. I would like to rent a furnished condo for the first 6 months. Anyone with any information on Hawaii Kai?

Hawaii Kai is one of the more expensive areas, I would expect to pay $2000 - $2400 a month to rent a 2-bedroom.

What do you want to know? kaiser is a good school. It's safe =) probably the nicest public school on oahu. look on craigslist to see if anything looks good to rent. You could also live in a surrounding neighborhood just a little bit cheaper but same school district. Look up hawaii kai for townhouse/condo & appt. Try hahaione thats where alot of the buildings are. You can also try kalama valley, Kuliouou, aina haina, niu valley, & some other areas. Itll give you a broader search. We live in Kuliouou & we love it. Very safe, conveniently located near costco. Far enough from town yet close enough too. Traffic not to bad.. Let me know if i can help you with anything else good luck!

Hawaii Kai is considered one of the desirable areas on Oahu. It is expensive to live there so it's out of reach of many residents. I live on the Windward Side of Oahu so Hawaii Kai looks dry to me. The area doesn't get as much rain as some other parts of the island.

Hawaii Kai is a great area if you like boating. There's a marina. Some of the residents have waterfront homes. They have their boats docked in front of their homes.

I don't mean the following as a criticism but as an observation - the homes and neighborhoods in Hawaii Kai look similar to those in California.

I have friends that live in Hawaii Kai. They seem to like it there.

If you look at the top of this Hawaii subforum there's a thread called City by City or something like that. There should be a review of Hawaii Kai by someone who lives there.

Great area for outdoor activities, beaches, jet skiing, and plenty great surf spots.
Condo costs are high but you pay to live in a nice and safe community.
I went to Kaiser and live in Kuliouou. Kuliouou is at the border of school districts, anything West your daughter would have to go to Kalani, which is a pretty sad high school.
