But remember that *lots* of the jobs here are service industry, much more so than other places. So people are working, but in relatively low paying jobs. (And I know lots of people who usually work 2 or 3 jobs, who are down to 1. Technically still employed, but not really getting by. FWIW.)
On Oahu - everyone is too busy looking for work to get into trouble. That or the media is keeping crime stories quiet (doubtful).
This morning P&P (KSSK radio) mentioned that our UE rate actually dropped - HOWEVER - Lingle (the governor) is wanting to furlough 46,000+ state workers 3 days a month.... and if the Unions still buck the proposal (they have until July 1st to make a real decision), the Lingle will start laying off state workers.
Come back and ask again after the 4th of July weekend and we will see what's happening. :S
