Has there ever been any talks about moving the MILITARY from OAHU to another island? Maybe the BIG ISLAND?
Just curious, as it seems like space is limited in OAHU...and HONOLULU is the big city of all the islands...
Just curious if it's ever been discussed in Hawaii, or if its just understood that Oahu will always be THE place for the U.S. military on the islands...

No, billions of dollars in infrastructure is on Oahu additionally the Army has large training areas at Schofield and on the west side.
Otherwise they go to the Big Island training area of Pohakuloa.
Not any more space on the other islands, at least that isn't already privately owned. The government could annex or buy the lands, then build the ports, roads, housing, stores, etc. The airports could be expanded, and businesses and schools opened to support the influx of thousands.
But why? (And please don't!)
When you say space is limited, what is lacking that the military needs?
They do have a presence on every island, and they aren't utilizing that round the calendar. If they were running out of room, they would likely have moved some operations to some of the other islands already.
And the existing runways are too short at all airports but HON and KOA to handle mission requirements for the military. They would now need to build new air bases because the current ones have no room to expand.
One of the main reasons why Honolulu has become so large (populated) is BECAUSE the military is there. Think of the tens of thousands that are employed by either the military directly or support them and their families with other services, including housing, schools, vehicles, groceries, supplies, everything...
Nope, the military moving doesn't even come up in discussions. Why would they move? Why would they even consider moving? Why would you even ask?
The outer islands don't have anything equivalent to Pearl Harbor which is one of the main reasons they started out on Oahu. Now they are so entrenched, I doubt they will ever relocate.
