I have been here almost 2 weeks and have seen a lot of very small places in high rises. I will be stationed at Scholfield Barracks for the next 3 years and want more of a home setting. Apparently realtors don't want to help out with rentals. Any ideas......?

What size family do you have or is it just you?

Doesn't the base have housing available? They might be much more economical than anywhere else. A "more homelike" setting may not be either available or affordable on Oahu, depending on how "more homelike" is interpreted. Have you asked your base housing folks for advice? I'm sure they have answered similar questions before.

are you single or married? if you're single, your BAH might get you a condo in the schofield area, with a room mate. townhomes and single family homes in the area go from $1700 a month and upward, plus utilities.

don't rent in wahiawa. look for places in mililani, mililani tech park, launani valley on craigslist.

there is also ahrn.com

Hi Susan,

I agree with DuvalGatorGirl. Wahiawa might not be the ideal place to rent, at least until you've lived in Hawaii for a while and get a feel for the neighborhood.

You might consider Mililani, Waipio Gentry or even Kapolei. These residential areas commonly rent to military families.
