My company is transferring me to the Ocala area. I'm interested in comments about the best family neighborhoods in the city / surrounding 'burbs. What is the best high school for academics? Is there good quality rental housing available? I'm looking to rent a newer home, around 2000 sq feet 3 br/2+bath/yard/unfurnished. No more than 30 minute commute to downtown Ocala.

I've heard that Forest and Vanguard are good in the city, and the Villages Charter School is tops nearby. True or False? Any other contenders?

What else do I need to know?

I have lived in Ocala my whole life. Great place to raise a family. I went to Forest High, so naturally I will say it is the best academically. Vanguard has a great IB program though. Usually anything towards the SE side of town is great. A new outdoor mall has been built close to I-75, so that is being built up big right now. A housing community out there will be Fore Ranch. They have rentals. If you stay towards the Forest High district I would look into The Magnolias for a newer home. They are larger, gated, and have good rates. Most are homeowners, but there are a few rentals in there. Hope this helps!
