Second highest in the state next to Palm Coast.

DO NOT move there unless you have a job lined up if you aren't retired and need to work for a living.

Makes you wonder why real estate prices there are so astronomically high.

They aren't now. The median sales price for a single-family home in Ocala was $105,700 in March and it will only get lower.

You should be able to find a decent house under $100k out of foreclosure.

So true! As I said before, there are isolated pockets of intelligent, intellectual folk here.

Agreed on the intellectual black hole here. I currently have my Master's Degree in Computer Science. I haven't been able to get a job here in SLOW-cala because many "businesses" do not even know where to place me due to their lack of education and lack of human resource management. I just received a job offer out of state (where true education is valued) doing the same thing I am currently doing at triple my current salary. Interestingly enough, the houses are much less expensive there as well (3 story new home on 3+ acres for $150k). Ocala will not survive long without true industry . . . all the real equine businesses are moving back up to Kentucky. Where is the technology sector? What else is there here? Retirement? Hospitals? Entertainment? Needless to say, I accepted the position and am moving before Ocala becomes a ghost town.
