We just purchased a home in Dunnellon and received our first water bill. OMG!! We had heard water was expensive - we figured $60 a month - the bill was $250 and we are not even living there now! We do have the irrigation on, we have a brand new lawn. I'm in a tizzie about this, I couldn't sleep last night. Does anyone know the cost of an irrigation well or a reputable company to install one? Also, do you need a permit? I'm coming down in a week and would love to have one installed when I'm there. When we were house hunting, many of the houses has irrigation wells and we thought "oh, that's nice." Now we know why!
Any info would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If my DH and I move down to FL we would let a native lawn grow and not water it. Native grasses would be tougher and adapted to the climate there. Some fertilizer perhaps would be all. Why do you want the kind of grass that needs irrigation? Just curious.

The house we bought has a new lawn and landscaping, new sod needs to be watered. They don't plant grass in FL, they lay sod. Too hot to grow grass, I guess. We have another house that doesn't have a "nice" lawn and we don't have irrigation - you don't want to walk across the grass barefoot.

A new lawn may need watering daily for a few weeks. But then you have to change the settings to water twice a week if needed. My guess is you have a problem with the settings on your sprinkler system. I do not know your details but my guess is you should be spending no more than $100.00 a month if you have a small lawn,
