Hi moving from Alaska to Ocala FL.
What is the bad and good side of town?
Every town had a bad side. Usually west side.
Whats the good side of town?

The bad parts are actually found in pockets throughout the area. Perhaps you could offer some more details, particularly of a budget-related and personal 'wants' nature, so that myself or others might help to steer you towards an acceptable living arrangement.

Ok, I can do that.
800-1300 rent, but cheaper is good if in nice area.
Not too far of commute from sw 1st street.
Pet friendly, smoking outdoors, and no tweakers and druggies. Gated with security.

Do you want an apt or a house? Pet friendly apartments can be rented downtown. Pet friendly houses, not so much. I rent from Ellison Properties, and have for quite a few years. They are good people, and the rent here is very reasonable. I rent an 1800 sq ft. 3/2/2 home in a nice neighborhood. $750/ mo., but not pet friendly. They have some pet friendly apartments for rent, some of them downtown. If you don't mind an apt, you might be able to live walking distance from work. Ocala4sale.com is a good resource here for finding a place.

Younger folks tend to live downtown or on the East side of Ocala, but there are pockets everywhere as the previous poster stated. The West side is busier, newer and has more restaurants, retirees and golf courses. I live in the County, East of town, we are on Duke Energy instead of Ocala Electric Utility. Electric bill is about 1/2. And if you get Marion County Utilities Water and Sewer, it will be high. $48 for water and sewer this month, and $54 for electric. A lot of the homes out here have wells, great water for free, basically. And a septic tank, which the landlord maintains.

The East side is next to Ocala National Forest, 389K acres, second largest in FL. If you like dirt bikes, this is the side to be on. Two lane country roads can take me quite far from here, cities can be avoided. That is most of the charm this place has for me. You can live real cheap and have all the pets you want, out in the forest with the forest rats. I choose to stay in between, on the edge of town. There are springs and rivers dotted all over, some nice stuff in Dunellon too, if you move to the West side.
