I'm thinking of relocating to the above area; however, I'm not familiar with any of them. Any inputs and description of areas would be appreciated. TIA

Why these towns and not Ocala? I think it would help if you gave a little info on yourself and what you are looking for. Then we could comment on the locations in terms of what you are looking for.

Are the areas I mentioned, bunched together? How far is Ocala? I'm 52, no children, love the outdoors, would like to be near the ocean, like hiking, etc..

Keep in mind that the Gulf of Mexico is not an ocean. It is salt water but the big difference is that it is very shallow for almost a mile from the mainland. Beautiful area though but no large beaches like on the East coast of FL.

I would go to Google Earth and look at the area. You are not near the Ocean. You will have to download the program but it will let you see the land in detail.

Ft Island Gulf Beach is nice but very tiny- the internet pics make it look longer/bigger than it actually is. Nice place though. Great for us older folks who like calmer water (it isn't directly on the Gulf, it's on a bay on the Gulf) and for little kids.

That being said, it's still a beautiful place to spend some time!

I live in Pine Ridge, which is 5 minutes from Crystal River. Ft. Island Gulf Beach is very pretty but not as nice as other Florida beaches. And keep in mind that the power plant is there as well, some people have an issue with that and some don't. But it's such a great place to watch the sunset & sometimes spot some dolphins. I love Crystal River though, I think it's a cute little town. And the springs & bay are beautiful. Great place to kayak or paddle board. Google Three Sisters Springs, it's breathtaking. You should definitely check it out in person before making the decision to move, but we really like the area.

I know someone who is considering a relo to Ocala and would be working near The Villages.
He also would prefer coastal living and shallow water fishing like I have in Port Charlotte.
Is Crystal River a reasonable commute (45 min)? Or is it much further from the Villages?

Any advice from locals is appreciated.
