Well, with or without sinkholes, the Villages wouldn't be for me, but a lot of people like it. The main thing is, where they had the sinkholes, it was the part of The Villages in Marion County. Most of The Villages is in Sumter County, which doesn't have a problem with sinkholes. Yet, anyway. The Villages spans three counties, I think. Marion, Lake and Sumter.

Don't forget that sinkholes can happen anywhere at anytime. There is no single cause in all cases, just some areas are more prone than others.

This is truly bad news. Maybe it'll force changes before it becomes a real disaster and water will have to be hauled in for those who weren't eaten up by a sinkhole.

There is no need to get hysterical about sink holes. They have happened long before mankind started destroying our own environment and will happen even without our help. Just like any natural disaster, it happens.

By that logic, nobody should live in Kansas in the middle of "tornado alley" or California where earthquakes are common.

You may not choose to live in the area, but enough folks are willing to take that risk, knowingly or not. Personally, I am one of those folks.

According to an email I received, sinkholes must have been rebranded. They're now called "depressions".

I like the term "settlement issues".

It's NOT a ridiculous statement at all. If someone has a concern about sinkholes, yes, they should stay out of sinkhole alley, or at least do what they can to minimize their exposure. I just LOL every time I see a house built on a hillside in Cali slide down due to mudslides. That was preventable, but they built there anyway. As to the folks in Hawaii who were living on the side of an active volcano, no sympathy. How stupid do you have to be to play Russian roulette like that? Even in California there are places where you can live and minimize your exposure to earthquakes and wildfires.
