Certainly not as much as it used to. They used to be located near the Ocala airport but are now located between Silver Springs Shores and Lake Weir now.

That's a strange move, isn't it? I would think they'd want to stay close to air transport.

They moved a lot of their facilities/manufacturing elsewhere and there is not as much of a need to be close to the airport when on-the-road trucks work just fine.

When I used to work for Cingular/At&t Mobility, they moved into the old Lockhead/Martin building and converted it into a call center in 2001.

Interesting. I would have thought that with all the money being thrown at the military industrial complex these days, Lockheed would be living large.

This county is not just (or even exclusively) a "good 'ol boy" club as it likely was for decades past, though that element is still certainly thriving. Those ruling the roost here function more specifically as a crime syndicate, and local demographics make Marion an ideal place for such a functionality. The average resident is reasonably safe so long as they mind their business and know their place, however.

Bingo. There it is. The whole "good 'ol boy" thing is window dressing. They take orders, I was just trying to get a feel for who they take them from. Maybe we should just leave it at that.

So, I'm curious.
Please choose your answer from the following list of conclusions:

A: My arrival has coincided with, and contributed to, Ocala becoming more liberal and crime-ridden.
B: After my arrival, and the chain-migration of assorted family members, Ocala became more L & CR.
C: After my cataract surgery (paid for by that Socialist Medicare Program), I can see clearly now.
(With apologies to Johnny Nash)
D: Now if those darn liberals would just arm themselves and shoot more bad guys, we could lick this crime problem.
E: OK,that's it. I'm outa here. Somebody draw me a map Don't put in any of them blue areas.

Thanks
Dax

Default These groups have considerable influence

I'm not sure who rules, but I can tell you who has considerable influence. In no particular order they are Conservationists, True Believers, and Statists.

Planning to retire in Marion County. I've spent my childhood summers working on horse farms, swimming in the springs and hunting in the woods with my aunt during winter breaks from school. As a young adult, divorced with 2 children I lived and worked in a law office and attended a Baptist church close to my aunt's home. I experienced a wonderful lifestyle and wished I had been able to stay and raise my children there but the salaries were not up there to maintain a home for the 3 of us. I am looking forward to settling there soon. I've learned that you seek out your sources of information from the Chamber of Commerce, service organizations, watching the direction of the economic development choices being made by the city and the county. You can participate by making your voice heard at any of those meetings by joining and/or showing up. I plan to. Marion County is a special place in my heart.
