What is the purpose of that? So the monkey can look for additional sources of food then go back and tell the others?
Is that what happened to the guy with the deer feeder?
Because that was a lot of monkeys.
Do they mess with outdoor cats?
I think that they are so cute in the park.
But how common is it for them to go through trash cans and rip through people's gardens?
Hard to say. Most likely the dominant males want to remove competition for mates. There is a social structure to a colony, like humans. The outcast will never be allowed back into the colony, if the male tries he will be killed.
A cast out could also be a younger weaker male pushed out to expand and find new females to start a new colony. Just as easily could be weak, maybe sick and booted to keep the rest from getting sick. The bottom line is the strongest push the weaker male out from time to time.
They can be very aggressive but not likely to go after a cat for food. You shouldn't approach a free roaming rogue monkey. Much more of a true threat to cats or dogs Are coyote
Sure they will get into the trash, but much more common are raccoons and opossum. If you have fruit trees a free roaming monkey will head there. These events are rare, yet its possible.
