Is the area Ocala- good for retired people ? (non 55+ community) (The Villages: rentals, homes)

Seriously looking at the Ocala area, but not leaning towards 55+ communities and wondering density of retired people living outside of the "bubble" (The Villages or such) -

There are plenty of communities/sections that are not 55+. Check with a local realtor in the Ocala area to help find a home/property and provide your requirements/budget.

There are may places that are good for retired individuals. The problem is are they the type that you want. We can not tell.

Short answer is yes.

Better answer is to see if you can rent for a period of time in the community. Maybe try several.
You might be able to find short term rentals in an over 55 community and then explore the area.
You can use Google Earth to look at street views of the neighborhood. Good to do before you visit.
Remember you are not on vacation so view the area as if you lived their.

I am 53 and am also looking at Ocala. It is considered “horse country,” according to one person I spoke with. A realtor in Ocala advised that there are many affordable (compared to a lot of the rest of the US anyway), options, for single family homes. It isn’t going to have as much to do as a big city, but it is not on the coast for storm surges. It did have a tornado in 2022, and it will get hot and humid. It kind of depends on what you like. Health care is lower ranked on quality overall for Florida, which is another consideration for me in thinking about it for possible retirement.
