Population of the City of Ocala is right around 50,000 but most everyone who lives in Marion County has an Ocala address. The population of Marion County is around 300,000.

Charlotte Showmaker is right Bob, about the population. Marion County is one of the largest land mass areas in the state. Marion County has 5 municipalities: Ocala, McIntosh, Reddick, Belleview and Dunnellon. Each municipality has it's own law enforcement (except little McIntosh which sub-contracts with the Sheriff's office). The county's total population is about 300,000.

When moving to one of the municipalities, you can always figure your living expenses to be higher due to added services, trash, city water, etc. If you live in the county but not in a municipality, living expenses go down. Chances are you will have to take your own trash to the trash collection sites peppered around the county. You will also have a well for water (lots of spring water in Marion County -Silver Springs too). Your chances of being on or near fishing is greater living in the county not a municipality.

Bob, one other thought - I like real estate agents and I am not one of them. Just be careful. If you want fishing, you may want more rural. I wouldn't allow someone to talk me into a subdivision or a 55+ park without knowing all the fees and rules.

[Orphaned post

I post this as if you even care.

"Real Estate Agents and other businesses will not advertise their services nor solicit business in their posts. Create a free business profile by going to Business Profile Addition and fill out your forum profile instead. Do not include links to your websites, MLS listings, etc. in your posts. Do not try to push the envelope by attempting to hide your intentions. Do not solicit business by PMs. Show your knowledge about the area and help people and you will get leads naturally. Real estate agents should join the usergroup for them here: //www.city-data.com/forum/profi...editusergroups. It will set your user title and add an icon next to your name, so you will get free advertising with your posts."

Default Ocala

It is a nice quiet but slowly growing community. The homes are priced right by comparison. You will find way more bang for your buck there. It is close to the city should you want to venture out. A very large retirement community nearby is the Villages. It has a large amount of activities and golfing galore. It is just East of Ocala around Lady lakes. you might like it as well. Good luck.
