I think you got good advice looking in Levy County for more affordability. The northwest part of Ocala is the premier horse farm area of the County and is very expensive for acreage.

I'm not a fan of old mobile homes. They may or may not be up to the current hurricane codes. They are almost always impossible to insure and like cars are depreciating assets.

I would look at raw acreage and buy a new trailer up to the current hurricane codes that you can right size for what you want. You can get 5-10 acres and a new basic single wide trailer in Levy County for under $100k.

You could also consider actually building a real stick built house. I think a basic 3/2 1200-1300 square foot home on acreage could probably come in at your $170k budget and you'd be in a safer structure and have the potential for an asset that appreciates.
