Wow...This is a great site! I've been reading the posts here for the last 3 hours! Now I'm just all confused...sigh.
Here's my situation. I'm a single Mom of a 7 year old and I currently rent in a development 10 miles out of Tampa and I HAVE to get out of here! Gang tags sprouting up in the kid's park, building EVERYWHERE!
In any case, my parents live in Marion County (Spruce Creek Retirement Community) and I'm thinking of moving closer to them. I could really use the emotional support and the help with my son...BUT...

Would I be jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire?

I'm looking for safety and a good education for my son and a good job for me that won't take me an hour each way to get to (I've been an Accountant in the private industry for 15 years)
The best case scenario would be a Christian environment where my son can make good, decent friends.

I don't care about having a nice house, I'd probably rent. Quality of life is much more important to me.

Any suggestions about Ocala or nearby areas??

Thanks in advance!

Check Citrus County out. I believe there's a post about 6 pages back all about it. I live in Inverness and posted about it.

Ocala is a good safe place to raise kids. I have two. The schools are lacking but some are better than others. Home school is a good choice if you can not afford private. Stay away from North Marion schools and West port Schools if you go public. Rent vacancy are at 8% so prices are on the rise. You can find homes in areas out of town such as Rolling hills for 800 mo. Ocala is growing but will never be like a tampa. good luck.
