Well......thats not the situation here in New Jersey......most beach towns charge a minumin of $5 a day for adults for access to the beach with some as high as $8 a day. New Jersey residents who already help maintain beaches and replentish the sand when its washed out to sea every northeaster storm have to pay these additional fees for access to the beach.....evenif you just wish to walk along the beach and not swim your still charged and they have guards who patrol the beach and eject those without beach badges. On top of that periodically some beaches have to be closed due to hospital waste washing up on the shores (used syringes, etc) along with garbage from New Yoirk City.....additional closings are required for water quality when too much human waste (fecal matter) is detected through daily sampling in the summer. Of course, because they are used to paying outrageous taxes and fees for everything in New Jersey most New Jersey residents are willing to pay a fee to swim in human crap and hospital waste and not complain......how sad is that ? I've been to Daytona Beach and most New Jersey beaches since I've lived in New Jersey all my life and find the Florida beaches are far superior in general.....not to mention that you can use them 52 weeks a year !!!
