LJP1, echoes53 is correct but also throw in Crystal River area. I guess it depends on vaction or living permanently? I was going to rent a house in Crystal River for a month or so and did a ton of research on the area. I was about 1 mile from Crystal River proper but could go 4 miles north and hit Lake Rosseau on one side of the dam and the canal leading to the Gulf on the other side. This put uou about 4 miles to the gulf by water. Use Your Google Earth and check out the area. It also has Cedar Key which has a good beach area and boat launch. I had my trailer fitted with plastic type skids as loading on the bay can be tough depending on the tide and low water. If I were looking for permanent residence, I would look real closely at Yankeetown, demographics look good and area is ready for growth. There are still cracker style houses that are a real hoot, I love them, they a very similar to our old Farm house up north. I lbought an old Farm house and completley renovated it, it is a real charmer. I have seen some cute "cracker style" houses that were completly redone and were only $139,000. The average house cost on the same street was $347,000.000, this tells me that many people like the area but like so many quaint neighborhoods people buy up the old houses as tear downs to build new and still be in the area they want. This is a familar pattern in any up coming area. I probably would have been better off cost wise to tear it down and build new but it would not have the same "squeeky floors" 1" oak tongue and grove ceilings etc. plus I shored up the original old barn and beginning to work on that. We are on 60 acres and a mile out of town and have all the privacy in the world. I have lived in many areas some very upscale but if you are looking for a laid back quaint lifestyle, this is a good area. You are not going to starve but do not expect "Pal Joey's" on the Indian River, Boca Raton shopping or River Oyster Bars...
