I also agree with kshe95girl Cedar key sucks. Being from Miami and know living in Levy, I would forget the Gulf when it comes to beaches. I'm just a sucker for Atlantic coast beaches I guess, Daytona!

St. Pete: Fort De Soto Dog Park & Beach. Excellent (from personal experience)

Clearwater: Honeymoon Island Dog Beach (no personal experience but hear it’s nice). It’s in Dunedin which is near Clearwater.

Honeymoon Island park/beach in Dunedin is the best. No insane crowds or beer swigging people hanging around. It's a state park with adequate but limited parking. When it's full, it's full. Clearwater Beach is just horrible. The beach is nice, but so many loud people. And not much parking.

From Honeymoon Island, you can get to Caladesi Island State Park.

I love all the Beaches in the Gulf, South of Tarpon all the Way to Marco Island. The Atlantic all I care for is the Breeze it gives us n Miami all year...The Atlantic Beaches none move me like the Suncoast of Florida.

Perhaps Fernandina Bch once every 10 yrs, that's about it for me in the East

Go to the springs or to the east coast.
West coast is yuck.
And it’s supposedly grosser now then it was the last time I swam in it so I can’t even imagine.

We like Indian rocks beach - down near Clearwater. Our kids also like the water park across the street.

I know you're asking about west coast beaches, but if you're looking for something close by, you should consider Ormond Beach on the Atlantic side.

You're out of your damn mind. I'll take Pass-a-Grille Beach, St. Pete and Clearwater Beach any day over Miami area beaches, or Daytona.

West coast beaches like the ones I mentioned above are great -- white sands, cleaner, less crowded..etc..
