I'am also talking about the WEED also...and it isn't the BIG H that they are injecting its pain killers but the BIG H is around you bet...big with the rich kids in the area. Casual doobie smoking in public also sends the wrong message to young kids...i can't see selling it like Cigs...just my view

If Ohio was smart it would. Then again, what have our officials done lately in this state that amounted to anything? Why do always have to be the last to do everything? Look how long it took to get casinos. Prohibition of pot needs to end! Being made illegal had nothing to do with it being an intoxicant. It was made illegal due to racial stereotypes such as trying to keep illegal Mexicans out (yeah that's working), and plus the paper industry stood a lot to lose from the hemp industry. Now the issue you have with making it legal is a lot of folks stand to lose a lot of money, such as those tied up in law enforecement.... judges, prosecutors, cops, lawyers. Then you have the big pharm companies who stand a lot to lose, because they'd rather get people hooked on their drugs, which in fact tend to be more dangerous, and have a hell of a lot more side effects. And of course again the paper industry! Why not take the criminal element out of it, like when prohibition ended, and make it a legitimate business? It is the largest cash crop in the US, yet it's ILLEGAL???!!!

It doesn't matter if Ohio, as a state legalizes it, it woul still be outlawed by the federal government. Ohio could make medical marijuana legal though.

It will be legalized, the question is when. It could be 3 years it could be 20 years.

Ohio is a swing state on most issues, it comes with how large the state is and the diversity. Most of NE Ohio/East Ohio and several other large urban centers are mainly democratic, liberal, and sometimes progressive. However the rest of the state including the majority of small towns and rural areas will nearly always vote Republican, and are conservative AKA backwards-thinking. This also goes for most of the area surrounding Cincinnati and Columbus. This is why Bush won in Ohio, that is if it wasn't rigged the whole time.

Does Ohio even allow marijuana use for medical problems? I don't believe so. But I do know the penalties aren't that harsh in Ohio unless you have a very large amount

As far as the war on drugs and drug dealing goes I can tell you it definitely doesn't work. If you arrest people and lock them up, more will take their place, there's simply too much money to be made. I lived in the hood for a long time. I've seen drug busts/sweeps where they arrest and lock up 20-30 drug dealers in one neighborhood for years, within a few months there will be 20-30 more drug dealers on the street. Even if you locked up every criminal in the entire neighborhood outsiders and outta-towners will come in and take over, if there's money to be made. Same thing with the drug suppliers, if you cut a connection with someone at the top another will be made, and if there's a drought you'll start seeing an increase in violence and murders like in Cleveland a few years back, the dealers fight over what's left. There will always be a demand...

I grew up in rural Northeast Ohio. I have had this discussion with friends and family multiple times. The general consensus has been that the social differences in different areas of the state always ends up balancing out in election results. I have always had the impression that southern Ohio is significantly more conservative than the northern half. Just for example, compare the Cleveland area to metro Cincinnati.

We used to always joke about how all of those religious billboards would start popping up once you got as far south as Columbus. We used to say it's like you're starting to hit the bible belt.

It is still illegal to grow marijuana in California without a special lisence and the use of marijuana is just medical. If a state legalizes marijuana, it doesn't matter as long as the federal government says it is illegal. Federal law has the final say on everything

Supposedly, the feds are no longer prosecuting people who use marijuana for medical reasons.

But, will Ohio legalize it? I grew up there, and I think they ought to (why the heck not?), but I don't think it's going to happen. Certainly not any time soon. I don't see Strickland wanting to do anything that creates waves. I think I read a few months ago that there was a medical pot bill in the OH legislature -- anyone know what happened with that?
