I feel like my sale's tax is fair (6.5%). I don't own any property at the moment, but when i did own property i didn't feel my taxes were bad in Niles. They also had a wage tax of 1% that i didn't mind. At the time i was making pretty good money so I didn't even think about it.

Where i live now the taxes are pretty high considering the property values have dropped pretty significantly on many of the homes here, but we have excellent schools, a safe community, nice parks, etc. The city of Cortland paves our roads every five years and they are constantly working on sewer and water line upgrades. We just got a new water tank in town that has greatly increased pressure. The county library system is building us a brand new 10k sq/ft library that will be located very near to the middle school and high school and the city is installing sidewalks in the areas between the schools and the library so kids will have safe easy access. Over the years the parks have been vastly improved and they are very busy with activity in nice weather.

I would say no. The sales tax in Ohio used to be 4.5% and I felt I got equal or better services then compared to what is provided today.

Compared to every state I have lived in, Ohio is a dream when it comes to taxes (outside Indiana).

For the township I live in (Howland) we get a lot for what we pay. No new levy since 1988 with great police, fire, ambulance, parks, and roads. If the township trustees would run the schools, we would be perfect.

Howland is a great community, a little too congested in the Rt 46 corridor for me, but I would consider living in many of the neighborhoods there. I wonder how Howland's taxes compare to Cortland's......
