Most factory jobs are gone in ohio. It will be hard for you to find a good paying job anywhere in ohio.

My daughter lives in Norwalk, OH and they just laid off a bunch of people at two of the biggest factories in the area. If you are moving to Ohio looking for "factory" work you are a good 25 years too late. Best of luck.

Default Bowling Green factory to close, 100 getting laid off

'nother one bites the dust.

You might have better luck in the factory business if you head out to either China or Mexico.

There are a lot of low-paying (like $8 - $12 hour) manufacturing jobs available all over Ohio, but the days of good paying, good benefit mfg. jobs are long gone. As chance2jump said, those were outsourced to China & Mexico. Look up the Hoover Company in North Canton, wait a minute, it's not there any more, used to employ thousands of people at good wages, now not a soul. Plus a lot of auto companies had big factories in Ohio, but as you have probably seen, the big 3 from Detroit are struggling mightly and slashing jobs by the thousands...just ask Toledo about that.

One area that I have read about coming back in manufacturing in the U.S. is steel, might be your only chance for a good paying job in that field.

Ohio and Michigan? To accomplish your dream of living in has-been economical states with no prospect of work in your field? Maybe you could try Louisiana next.

I'll say this: see if you can get railroad certified. There are some decent jobs in Norwalk working for the railroad. Have to be willing to travel but it seems to pay well. Not sure of openings but it may be a brighter future than factory work.

Better yet, one of my buddies went to 2-year electrician trade school and makes 60,000-70,000 working at the airport and he says it's easy work. Good luck.

As a Daytonnatian, I would try Daytonnati, due to the high comcentration of these type of jobs. However, 8500+ manufacturing jobs are leaving the region with DHL and GM Moraine closing, so there will be much competition for what's left. May I also suggest going to Sinclair, which has the lowest tuition in the state of Ohio, and getting a new profession?
