Pleasant Grove isn't too bad. It's one of those areas in the Youngstown city limits that is actually south of Midlothian Blvd (Midlothian is the main boundary between Youngstown and Boardman). It's surrounded by Boardman on the south, east and west. Really close to everything in Boardman, and very close to YSU for your son.

Youngstown schools are horrible. If I were you, I wouldn't even consider sending your honor-student daughter there. Like others have said, Austintown has open enrollment, but it may be a little far of a drive. Austintown is west of Youngstown.

You could send her to Cardinal Mooney, one of the two Catholic high schools in the city. Mooney is full of kids from all of the southern suburbs (Canfield, Boardman and Poland). If you adopt other children, you'll probably want to send them to Catholic schools from the start, or get used to making the trip out to Austintown everyday.

As for the poster who said everyone is moving to the southern part of the county, I wouldn't recommend it. Things get pretty rural very quickly once you go south of Western Reserve Road, which is the southern boundary of Canfield, Boardman and Poland

Just adding this article about Chaney, in case someone is curious about Youngstown schools in the future.
