Lebanon probably isn't the best place for an African-American family. Others could probably comment more on that.

The new casino is actually on the far western stretches of what's considered to be "Lebanon" and is a lot closer to Monroe, OH. In fact, it's within Monroe city limits but has a Lebanon mailing address because it's across the county line.

Keeping that in mind, Monroe would be a good place to look. If you have a budget around $120k or greater, a lot of decent developments exist in Monroe around Lebanon St and Cin-Day Rd. I even found a decent foreclosed bi-level in the area for $65k using Zillow:

Monroe Real Estate & Monroe Homes for Sale - Zillow

And here's something good in the $120k range:
Monroe Real Estate & Monroe Homes for Sale - Zillow

Monroe has great schools and a fair amount of AA families. Lakota, to the south, would be good too, but there is only one development I can think of in the $120k range (it's partially in Monroe, partially in Liberty Twp.).

If your budget is higher, both communities have a lot of nice housing options for almost any price range. If your budget is lower, you might want to look into Middletown (probably should figure in private school too), Hamilton, or Trenton.

What is an AA family (sorry for my cluelessness.)

If that essentially means "mixed", then agreed 100% with OHKID. Lebanon prides itself on non-diversity, almost bordering on anti-diversity and pride in political incorrectness. It's a nice town if you "fit".

Monroe is close to the interstate and probably attracts lots of commuters from Cinci and Dayton. It's going to naturally be more diverse than Lebanon, which takes some effort to commute to.

The local democratic party HQ had a truckload of manure dumped in its parking lot recently, and the county is full of elderly, closed minded "duh derp derp derp" Republicans.

Lashone, my family has lived in Lebanon for a number of years and we really like it. Are you looking to be in town or out a bit? Do you want to rent or buy, and what is your price range?

And welcome to Ohio! I hope your move goes well and you like it here, whether you end up in Lebanon or elsewhere.

I've lived nearly my whole live in Lebanon and I love it, but I agree its not very diverse. But Lebanon has one of the best town to live in with amazing schools, and very very low crime. Its a wonderful place to live. I would live here over any other town close to here (monroe, franklin, springboro, etc)

Lebanon is a better town than Monroe, Franklin, Trenton, etc. One thing I notice about Lebanon is that the population density and traffic density is low for this region, probably because it's so far off the interstates.

There is a lot of thick headedness here, but, frankly, the area isn't that dense, so it's not as much of a nuisance as a larger town would be.

Here's the local paper: Today It may be more helpful finding a house to rent, craigslist is good too.

Any area in Lebanon is good, its a small town, there are no really "bad" areas. If you want to stay close to the casino, the center of Lebanon is 10 mins away. Monroe is a few minutes less. Middletown is more north, but the crime rate is higher I think, and the schools aren't as good. (personal opinion)

I think (totally personal opinion) that Lebanon schools are better, and as for crime... I feel safe in my town, I wouldn't live here if I didn't.
