So there's been some campaigning for and against the DNC going to Columbus, and not just from Mayor Coleman.

Some of the articles really overstate how conservative Ohio is. Ohio is purple at worst, but it does have conservative leadership, in part, because of drastic redistricting. They're embarrassing Ohio with the heartbeat bill and the anti-LGBT stuff and now Kasich's partnership of religion and money for schools. Ugh.

However, despite some calls for the DNC to go to Columbus, there are other lobbying groups working to make sure that doesn't happen, including New York's hospitality unions.

I don't know why states are still debating abortion and same sex marriage. How long will this go on already? The US has been losing jobs and we are wasting precious time debating this. Really? Same sex marriage would not be an issue if there was singles equality. Ohio like other states should focus on education, innovation, energy, initiatives to help special needs and elderly, lowering taxes among others but people would rather focus on issues we have been debating since Pre biblical times. We like think that we are better than countries in the Middle East and Africa but this is what their leaders focus on, social issues. It helps divert attention from their huge problems such as jobs, lack of water among others and they use religion as their scapegoat so they can hold onto power. Thank goodness for our system of government that tries to check this.

The 2016 DNC announcement is expected within the next couple of weeks. My preference is 1) Philly or 2) Brooklyn. Obviously these places have the money, infrastructure and hotels; in other words, either Philly or Brooklyn can pull the DNC off.

Columbus, completely out of its league compared to Philly and Brooklyn, could win for strictly political reasons. In other words, because the RNC is in Cleveland, the DNC could be in Columbus. If the RNC was not in Cleveland, the 2016 DNC would be there. The issue is: does the DNC want to ''copy'' the RNC and risk the battleground state of Ohio? Or, as history has shown, having a convention in a state is no guarantee of a party win there. The Dems had a bad experience in Charlotte (Columbus-like new kinda place but with mania for light-rail) so it may go with Philly since it can handle the convention and PA is a quasi-swing state. The Dems went to Charlotte to tap into the growing dem-liberal population and lost North Carolina in 2012. Analogous to Columbus, in South-Central Ohio The Reps had a bad experience in Tampa which is why they are in Cleveland for 2016 in a true swing state.

Then again, the Republicans quickly disposed of the Columbus bid in Round 1 elimination. Most likely because, Cleveland looked better and, at least on paper, so did Cincinnati.

It all comes down to politics for Columbus. Win or lose, Cleveland should not expect and acknowledgement or a thanks for supporting COL 2016 even though Columbus remains in the running because of Cleveland.

While I don't necessarily think Columbus wins the bid, your desperate need to make sure everyone knows that if they do win it, you think it has absolutely nothing to do with the city itself or the bid they put forth, is just kind of pathetic. Get a grip, dude. Cleveland is doing a whole lot better than you seem to be willing to accept. It doesn't need this crap.

It's a pattern of facts, that's all. If Columbus wins the DNC it will be despite the city and result from the DNC being insecure about the RNC in Cleveland. As pointed out in another thread, people like you preach about 3C-love yet not a peep of support came out of Columbus or Cincinnati for Cleveland when both of these cities were eliminated from the RNC. Cleveland does not need it but get a grip with your 3C supporting each other b.s.

When Columbus made it to the final DNC cities, Cleveland gave its full support for its bid to win it. Win or lose, Columbus would never acknowledge Cleveland's role in it being in the final running or its open support for COL's bid. Cleveland went up against Denver and Dallas and the sound of crickets chirping could be heard coming out of Columbus and Cincinnati. Gee, thanks.

Facts are never desperate. What is desperate your anger when Cleveland won the RNC. Kind of like sad Cincinnati in its headlines about being on Jetsetter (the pay to get on list) as a 2015 destination to counter Cleveland making top (and free) travel publications. Cleveland and NEO have always been, fortunately, distinct from the the southern-ish vibe in Columbus and Cincinnati anyway. Gov. Rhodes, from cutting-edge Hillsboro, OH, hated NEO, especially Cleveland.

It all boils down to the fact that Cincinnati and Columbus have been gloating and enjoying Cleveland's economic and social struggles for decades. Neither city was ever as prominent and large as Cleveland so watching your in-state rival fall has been, for some reason, the object of ridicule and jokes. As if watching the demise of middle class America was ever funny; but it happening in Cleveland is or was the object of humor.

Now that Cleveland has garnered national attention, Columbus and Cincinnati are seething. Hence no support from either for CLE's 2016 RNC bid. They didn't see dumpy, run down, abandoned and 'over' Cleveland coming.

Actually the trash has decreased along the Red Line from the Airport compared to years past. Also, it is much more noticeable in the winter since the summer provides lots of green cover.

Regardless, the trash and, especially the graffiti need to go. I think community service sentences (regardless of crime) and prison/jail work crews should be used on a regular basis to keep all Rapid Transit lines trash and graffiti free.

For that matter, they should be used for trash, litter and graffiti control throughout the city and county; especially the highways, vacant lots and waterfronts.

Tourists, conventioneers and business travelers should be encouraged to use the Red Line and the RTA in general. The RTA needs to implement trash-graffiti control program year-round and should using community sentence and incarcerated individuals.

Columbus has a very good shot at landing the DNC I've been told.The committee is very impressed with the city and the favorable logistics and accessability to the events compareed to the other cities.It seems they are impressed by the city itself,,not just because the very important international metropolis of Cleveland is involved.
