moving to springfield oh area from upstate NY (Beavercreek, Wilmington: school district, college)

we are a millitary guard family moving to the Springfield Ohio area from upstate New York.
We are looking at the Jamestown area, Bellbrook area any one have any helpful advice for us. We have 2 girls in grade 1 and 4. Thanks

Oh sorry I'm new to this. We were wondering what people knew about the Jamestown area, school district people etc and the same for Bellbrook. These are the two area that we are thinking about to move too. Pros and cons for both areas. Things like that. Airviper20

I can't help you with the schools. Jamestown and Bellbrook are both decent areas. Jamestown being more country and laid back. Bellbrook will be more expensive, but closer to shopping.

Both these areas are a a bit far from the Springfield gaurd base.

Gary is pretty much right about the character. Jamestown is a lot more country, maybe a bit more redneck, but maybe an easier commute as you'll be taking country roads to get to the base.

Bellbrook and it surrounding township, Sugarcreek, are really booming. so will have more of a choice in housing. Also, shopping is better (though there is an outlet mall near Jamestown). But you;ll be doing a lot of freeway driving as its pretty far from the gaurd base.

You could look closer in at a place like Cedarville, which is a nice little town with a religous college (so i'd expect the schools would be good), that would be "like" Jamestown, but not such long drive.

If you like Bellbrook but dislike the cost and find Jamestown and Ceaderville a little to rural, I'd recommend Beavercreek, or more specifically Beavercreek Township. Most of the shopping near Bellbrook is either on Wilmington Pike or Beavercreek. Beavercreek also one township north of Sugarcreek, making it a little closer to the Springfield Airbase. Housing there is a little cheaper then some of the developments in Sugarcreek Twp. Yet the schools sit on the same scale of excellence by state standards. Also, Beavercreek recently made the list (at 84) for Money Magazines best places to live. But if you enjoy the slower pace of rural life, I'd recommend Ceaderville above anyone else. Jamestown is also good, but it's a longer commute and its schools are a grade lower than Ceaderville's.

hey guys i moved here @ 25 years ago from canton ny you might find yellow springs or south charleston more to your likeing the shools are great busing is provided they are both great school systems no big problems in these areas

Enon and New Carlisle are also nice little towns, and closer to Springfield than the others mentioned.
