My kids want Cedar Point, but I refuse to go there on Memorial Day Weekend. A neighbor warned me.

We can go away for one or two nights. I'd like something out doors. It doesn't need to be camping but I'm open to that in a camping cabin.

My kids are 13 - 21. They will be coming along. My wife likes to shop and enjoys historical places and antiquing. We are still getting to know NEO, so we are open. Street festivals are also an idea.

What are your ideas? We want to get to know our new state better.

Take a trip to the Cuyahoga valley national park. Bike along the towpath trail and then take the train back, bike included. Then have lunch or dinner at one of the restaurants in beautiful Peninsula. If I had a family that's what I would be doing.

This may be more than an hour away but a camping trip to Hocking Hills would be worth the trip.

It's more than an hour away, and not in Northeast Ohio, but if your kids want to go to an amusement park and you don't want the crowds and hassle of Cedar Point, try a day trip to Waldameer Park in Erie. It's much smaller and less expensive, and has both amusement park rides and a water park.

Waldameer Water World

Waldameer is near the entrance to Presque Isle State Park

PA*DCNR*-*Presque Isle State Park

and across the street from the Ridge Environmental Center, which is a very cool natural history museum focusing on the Great Lakes in general and Lake Erie/Presque Isle in particular.

Home: Tom Ridge Environmental Center at Presque Isle -- TRECpi

Another fun little lake excursion is Geneva-on-the-Lake in Ashtabula County. That would probably make everyone happy.

Visit Geneva on the Lake, Ohio

Presque Isle is great, just watch out for ticks. Lyme disease is a b****.

I know; they're everywhere. About the only time I go on the trails out there these days is when there's snow on the ground.

What is "Put In Bay" like? Some one told us we'd like it, but I'm wondering if it's more for people in their 20s.
