The situation you describe applies to a lot of other states more than Ohio, the job market in Maine is so weak that almost no young people can ever stay, including myself.

While it's not showing nearly as robust growth as places out west or in the South, Ohio still is very slowly growing in population...if all young people were moving out, the population of the whole state would be in decline...which is not happening.

I did move away, and came back...and if a better opportunity came for me to move away again, I would...younger people like myself can be more mobile...we don't have to be tied down to one specific area anymore...most of us will go where our best opportunity takes us...for me, as of now, that's here in Columbus, OH.

Maine people go to Boston or NYC metro for jobs.

I moved out west and, after five years, couldn't wait to move back to Ohio.

As others have mentioned, do a real estate search of the coasts. Top that off with taxes and COL.

I'm ready to come back. Of course, I'm not young anymore. I wasn't even young when I left 10 years ago. Heck, I moved to Ohio when I was young ...
