Was listening to Mike McConnell on Am 700 WLW today (04/08/08) He read a press release from the Ohio State Highway Patrol. They will have their "Bear in the Air" speed monitoring airplane flying on selected days of the month during April. They frequently work the stretch North of the I-275 loop (around Cincinnati) to the rest area in Warren County (just before Exit 29; Ohio 63-Monroe/Lebanon) (I'm sure there are others, too...)

The police in Toledo do the same thing. They will rent an airplane and watch I-75 from the Ohio / Michigan line to I-280. The police cars will line up on the ramps to south bound 75 and wait for the call.

The newspaper usually has the score the next day.

Do they have the lines down in Cincinnati on the freeway for the helicopters to see how fast you are going? The cops in Charlotte were terrible, and in Georgia they love to hide in the trees and catch people, can't tell you how many I saw get caught.

I've never noticed the lines but I can tell you this much. When you are going north or south bound on 75, you had better watch yourself in Arlington Heights, Lockland, Evendale and Sharonville. For the most part, all 4 citys are inside the I275 loop. Lincoln Heights PD is out at times too but I don't think they are out to the extent of the other departments.

Traveler 87, I-75 indeed has the "speed lines" (for lack of a technical term) that law enforcement uses to measure your speed. And I've seen them on many of Ohio's roads, especially interstates and state highways. In my personal experience, the smaller cities inside the I-275 DO harvest a lot of revenue from I-75 but I truly believe they target only the REALLY stupid drivers. If you behave yourself and don't look like you're speeding or weaving in and out of traffic, you sould be fine. (following too closely seems to be getting a lot of attention nowadays, too.) Also, one of my colleauges reports that a Sharonville cop pulled over a line of several cars that passed his truck dangerously on the right as they merged onto I-75 from Sharon Road's Southbound on- ramp.)

I really have no problems in the rural areas along the interstates, but with the "stupid" drivers that come into play in the cities is when you have to watch out.

I got a speeding ticket in Arlington Heights northbound I-75 / 4 lanes / rushhour. I did speed but went with the flow of the traffic which was the safe way to go. Everybody was speeding and officer said: well - today it was you. I travel many times between Toronto and Biloxi, Mississippi, and now have decided to travel via Lansing - Indianapolis (MI and IN) thus avoiding Ohio alltogether and avoiding the annoying gestures of other drivers who have been fortunate not to have received a speeding ticket and therefore can travel at a moderate speed - me being reduced to a slow crawl. It may take me an hour or so longer but I have a peaceful and safe (going with the flow) ride once again. I drive a passenger car and are in my early fifties and female.

That's Arlinton Heights allright.

They have actually caused accidents on their little stretch of 75. They have also been known to sit in the Cincinnati part of the interstate and take off after a person. At least one time that I know of, they caused an accident while still in Cincinnati. You can bet that the Cincinnati PD wasn't happy with that little incident.

A Safe Driver, you're undoubtedly a good looking woman and the cop just wanted to make his job more pleasant pulling you over than by pulling over an ugly old guy like me Seriously, I'm sorry that my theory was no good for you. I've been trucking through that stretch of I-75 for over 4 years now and I guess I've just been very lucky. (although I can't remember the last time I saw a big truck on the shoulder in OH south of I-275. Maybe the cops feel like it's too dangerous to pull a truck over vs. a car...) Ever since my company started hiring a contractor to monitor us, I've just set my cruise at 56 mph and rolled; it seems to work for me. I see no real increase in my trip times, so I'm happy. Best of luck to all you Road Warriors and may you not pay additional taxes by the side of the road! (Incidentally, I-71 has PLENTY of room to pull over vehicles South of I-275...)

I agree, I am the same way. I feel driving with the flow of traffic is the safer thing to do. If not, you are the idiot holding up traffic, making people be bottlenecks, or just making the situation worse in rush hour.
