I need to say that this is one of the most friendly and non judgmental forums that I have encountered thus far. We hope OH is the same.

We love the house and we really look forward to restoring it to it's original beauty.

Here are some of our interests - history, decorating, antiques, hiking, camping, ethnic dining, film, animals, books, writing, biking, Lutheran Church, liberal progressive politics, paranormal phenomena, art, interior design, gardening, baking, holiday things, crafts and more.

Our daughter is interested in gymnastics. Our son is at YSU.

Any suggestions will be welcomed.

Congratulations! I don't know a whole lot about Warren, so I'll leave that to the other posters.

Here are a few links to get you started. (sorry if they're too Youngstown-centric)

Is there a Whole Foods or Teader Joe's in the area? Where do people in Warren shop for food?

OMG are you kidding? Warren Ohio is the pit. Very low income town, lots of crime. No one works there and most people are on drugs of some kind. Lots of pill pill pushing doctors there. Its a very depressed area of Ohio. They do have alot of
interesting old houses that need alot of work. I lived there for about three years and lost my son to drugs there. I hope you think about what you are doing.
I lived right in Warren so if you have questions just direct message me.

I will send you a DM. The particular neighborhood that we are looking at is quiet and filled with well kept homes. It's not is the bad part of town.

Our daughter is in honors classes and Warren Harding HS offers the International Baccalaureate program.

She is selective in choosing her friends. Almost snobish, and she is involved in cheerleading, sports and church. She worked full time last summer as a camp counselor and part time during the school year.

Our son is a Freshman in college and he is much the same.

Unfortunately, there are no Trader Joe's or Whole Foods anywhere in the Youngstown area. You'd have to go to Cleveland for that.

The dominant grocery store in the area is Giant Eagle, and it's awful. It's got a decent selection, but it's VERY overpriced. I'm not a fan of their produce either.

Sheena - I found an interesting site that rates cities and the crime rate associated with each. The safest rating is a 100. Wilkes-Barre got a 10 and Warren got a 4 (meaing it's safer than only 4% of American cites). You really need to tread carefully and make sure you're not jumping into a decision too quickly or before you have all the facts.

Here's the site:

For a great daytrip, take a cooler up to Cleveland's Westside and spend a few hours grocery shopping at the Westside Market! What a wonderful way to spend a morning or afternoon! One of my very favorite places! Just google Westside market.
