Hello, I use a metal detector to locate lost coins, tokens and artifacts. It's a hobby I've been involved in for years. I have been given permission to detect many private and public sites over the years and have always left the properties looking better once I left. I pick up any surface trash as I go along and I make sure to leave the lawn in excellent shape. I dig a U shaped cut down three inches or so and hinge back the sod. I then locate and remove the target, put all loose soil back, fold the sod back over and tamp it down. I collect tokens and old coins, that's why I became involved in this hobby. If I locate any jewelry, I return it to the property owner. I am looking for old properties in Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana and Tennesee. Check out my website www.daytondigger.com. Thanks, Steve
Dayton, OH

Well, I don't know whether or not you would need permission from Ohio/Butler County/West Chester (or whoever), but there is a bike/walking trail that runs along the old towpath for the Miami-Erie canal starting at SR747, heading over toward Bypass 4/Gilmore Ponds. You could try there. I've heard they've made some interesting archaeological finds around the trail.

Thanks aquila for the information. I've searched stretches of tow path along the canal years ago. There can be some nice finds from along canals. I appreciate you responding.
Thanks again, Steve
