Okay to some of you this may be a stupid question and to others you might help. We don't live in ohio anymore. We moved away but have a child who still resides in ohio. She has been living in Mansfield for a few years now and during visits lately she has told us about her windows at her house getting shot at and how she thinks they live in a bad neighborhood. I am really starting to question if her neighborhood is bad. She says she can't go to the park as there are registered offenders down the street from where she lives. Can anyone please help me out in this by answering a few questions. THanks

Sounds like Mansfield!

If she's there because of a job, tell her to try somewhere out in Ontario. Ashland and Wooster, while a bit further out, are also decent, safe communities to live in.

I'd tell her to look into moving to Loudenville. Its right next dorr to Mohican state park and Loudenville is a very nice small town with lots of charm.

She may want to look into Ohios (ORC) "Ohio Revised Codes" and laws to see how far that sex offender is aloowed to reside from any park play grounds or schools, they may be living to close and the local cops are to lazy to do thier jobs.

Loudenville is a very charming town, but if she works in Mansfield, the commute would not be fun (about 20-30 minutes away from Mansfield, so she would have to commute anywhere from 40-60 minutes to get to work and back). I sent you a direct message about my recommendation for safe neighborhoods in and around Mansfield.

Also, looking at the ORC is a good recommendation. If she sees these offenders, I suggest she call the authorities and have them check out the situation or she could go to or call the Sheriff's Dept. (specifically records dept.) and see what can be done.

20 to 30 minute commute one way is lite driving for down there And actually a nice drive ta-boot.

You can go online and look up the court records to read what they where give as a sentance and reqirement as felons.

Thank you all for the recommendations. The bio mom actually works in Wooster but lives in Mansfield I know I don't understand either but I am just the step mom who is wanting my step daughter to be safe. If we could have her here all the time with us we would in a heartbeat but we have to deal with Ohio courts and they aren't the straightest people LOL>

Commute from Mansfield would be a killer.. she is not telling you something...no one would drive that distance unless they had no choice. Wooster is not a bad place to live....

How about the smaller cities of Shelby or Galion; they are about 10-12 miles away from Mansfield.....small enough to not worry about too much crime yet large enough to offer basic services (doctors, groceries, libraries, etc).

Or.....there are nicer areas in the city of Mansfield....

And don't forget the "Shelby Mall", (Glenns Surplus).
