We are possibly moving to Lima Ohio. My wife is interviewing in the medical field there. We have 3 boys 5 3 and 2. I'm a stay home Dad. I'm very active in Music and enjoy outdoor activities with my sons. We enjoy living on the water. We have a realtor taking us around to places to live.

So should we see other areas other then Lima? What is close buy? withing 30min drive. Being if the job is acceptable...
I'm not into driving 20 miles for gas or shopping..
How are the schools and community for us?
Thanks to anyone....

There are a lot of little towns in this area of OH.... Bluffton is a cute little town, a bit north of Lima, with a population of about 7000-8000, I think.
Not a lot there, but quaint.

Findlay is the next biggest town to the north-- by about 45 minutes or so. There is a lot in Findlay, compared to the smaller towns. We have a mall--it's sad and it doesn't have great stores, but it's a mall. There are 2 wal-mart and a Meijer. We have a Kohl's and Lowes and a couple of Kroger.

We have lived in Findlay for about a year and a half now. We like it quite a lot.

I've only been to Lima once and it was literally for about 30 minutes while we had to run into the Girl Scout Council store, so I don't have an opinion about Lima. But others do, that I have met in person here in Findlay and also on this forum. You may want to check out those forums, but know that until you've checked it out yourself, that you might want to reserve judgement...

I hope that your wife finds a wonderful job and that you find a wonderful place that will be home for you all!

I would look in the Shawnee & Elida areas. They both have good school systems and Elida is building a new high school. As far as living on water that is going to be a hard one. Depending on where you live Indian Lake would be about a 30-40 minutes away. I moved away from Lima, I just see more and more businesses and jobs leaving the area and not much to do there. I also work in the medical field and really enjoyed St Rita's. Lima Memorial Hospital is nice too but I always favored St. Rita's. I recommend going to see Lima for yourself. My opinion of Lima isn't very good & I lived there for 24 years. Maybe you will like the area and it will be a great place for you and your family. Also pick up a newspaper while you are there, it seems like crime in the area just keeps getting worse. They have the news online at limaohio.com but you have to pay for a subscription. Honestly if you have no family ties there and you are just moving for the job, I would check out other areas. I know jobs even in the medical field are hard to find but they are out there. Good luck! Let me know if you have any more questions.

You're going to want to be in Celina/St. Mary's.

Grab a map, you may notice that both these places are on Ohio's largest inland lake (and it is HUGE), and withil relative proximity to Lima.

I'd guess a commute from there would be 30-40 min, but I could be off. Schools in that area are good, and if you are willing to go a little more south, the small rural district of Russia is nationally ranked, and Minster is also regarded well, too.

I am not from Ohio, but we are considering moving their for a job opportunity. We have friends who live in Lima and took us on drive by tours. Lima seems depressing but Shawnee was beautiful. If I had to choose I would choose Shawnee. I don't believe there is a lot to do because every weekend they seem to drive to Cincinnati. Good luck as it seems we are in the same boat.

Yeah if you are in one of the smaller towns, a quick drive to Toledo, Cleveland, Columbus or Cinci will give you a lot more options of things to do...

Most of Ohio is not "Outdoor activity" friendly. Small to medium towns in the Ohioan corn belt like Lima, Findlay, Fostoria, etc. are especially suffocating.

I wouldn't call Findlay suffocating... But we do travel a lot and see lots of different places. We did the same when we lived in Metro Detroit too, though...
