If you like them or not, this will be the new standard plate for people getting license plates in the state of Ohio. Since they came out a few months ago, almost 1 million have been bought up. To me, they look too western. At least its better than Pennsylvania's and New Jersey's.

It's officially optional, too. You can keep your current red white and blue plate.

I thought they were ugly when I first saw them. I've had a change of heart, however. LOL I think the plates look waaaay better on bright colored vehicles, though (like red or yellow).

Optional now, yes. But I believe once November rolls around they are official. They look too Iowa or Nebraska for me. They should have colored the black skyline in the background and added the Lake Erie shoreline or Hocking Hills. Why rolling hills? It looks like Iowa!

You do not have to buy the plate. It is now the official plate but the red white and blue ones will remain "for a limited time" (i.e. to deplete existing stock, I am sure). I only meant that it is not mandatory to get this plate. You don't have to trade in your current plate (like they made us do when the "sunburst" plate was released). But when you get a new car and new plates....

I like the idea behind the plate: rural farmland to represent MOST of Ohio and a large city on the left side to represent the big cities.
I think it could have been done better.

They still look like something off a cereal box.

Looks like they took them to a local elementary school and had the kids design it.

The woman who gave me my new "pretty" plates said that the governor's wife designed them.
