What's up with Highway 9 east of Norman? This highway should have been twinned 10 years ago. Bumper-to-bumper traffic during rush hour, hills, a lack of ANY right-turn lanes, a lack of safe passing zones, and plenty of traffic to the casino, the lake, and Little Axe. It would be interesting to tabulate the accident statistics on this road. Plus I'm seeing more and more cyclists on this highway on the weekends, and there's barely even a proper shoulder for them to stay safe on.

I can understand the need to pour money into the affluent areas of northwest Norman, especially with that new hospital complex. But you've also got the local authorities promoting the "Norman Technology Corridor" yet Highway 9 dwindles to a 2-lane road by the time it hits John Saxon, Technology Place, and the Postal Center.

Maybe it's due to the lack of attention that Norman state legislators are giving to Highway 9. If Norman is represented by Republicans, then don't expect much help in getting anything done, because Republcans are supposed to be commited to cutting taxes and REDUCING government spending.

Worse, in a Republican legislature, East Norman was represented by Democrats.

Emily Virgin.

Wallace Collins was beat by Styles, so they have a chance now.

well if you drive out east you will notice that once outside cleveland county hwy 9 the further east the better maintained and even turn lanes in other countys
hwy 9 was during the summer just re blacktops all the way to the biggest lake in oklahoma lol but cleveland county section didnt get done

i did some asking and was told all the counties chipped in on the project eccept cleveland county mmmm i dont understand why
seems like they would want a better road safer and all for the I35 juction at least maybe this year they will have the money to get there part done i enjoy riding motorcycles on hwy 9 but hate riding to norman on it for sure
cracks and broke sides ridges and speed traps along the way theres places for a half a mile that drops to 60 miles an hour because of road conditions only
and finally the bridge that was falling apart is under construction hopefully they will get this fixed

FWIW Highway 9 is slated to be widened sometime in the next few years, maybe 2013 (I'm pretty sure I saw it in ODOT's 8 year plan). Unfortunately ODOT's staus quo has been to work at a snail's pace and delay any major road rebuilds until the road is literally falling apart or people start getting killed. Think about it this way: it is going to take at a minimun ten years for the awful 44/235/77 interchange to be redone. Why people in this state do not demand better from their leaders is beyond me.
