I was just in Dallas the other day and while it is a great city it has just become so over populated. Sure it makes me a little jealous when I see all the new stuff that they get down there that we can't get. All of the professional teams, theme parks, not to mention the nation wide recognition.

But the beauty of Oklahoma City is that you can go down to Dallas for a day trip to experience all that. Just a 3 hour drive. But then come home to your smaller but wonderful in it's own right metro. We have the convenience of Dallas without having to live in it!! A few of the pluses here are that we have better weather (more seasons) and a ton less traffic!

Also, this is a ludicrous idea IMO but you can fly down there in like 45 minutes. Of course with the time you spend in the airport it's the same amount of time and more costly.

Bottom Line: You don't have to live in a metro of over 6 million people when you can live in one of 1.2 million just 3 hours away. Plus if you live in Norman you can hit the north "burbs" of Dallas in 2 hours nowadays.

I wouldn't exactly say it's nirvana. Dallas just feels like a huge OKC to me and we're fine right where we are If I could change one thing about here it'd be the weather, but it's not all that bad. April - June and September - November are usually pretty nice.

Love B D but I totally agree. OKC has its own personality....With really more character....No canal in Dallas...Westend is not comparable to Bricktown which is considered the fasted growing entertainment area in the uh....SW or nation?

I believe it's the fastest in the SW.

And in all honesty, OKC is nice but if I had my way I'd live around Denver. I love the dry climate with all the snow in the winter but some tolerable weather in between. And I'm 17 so all the sprawl and cookie cutter housing doesn't bother me, that's just the way it's going to be my whole life Some people like living in the historic communities, that would bore me half to death, spent a summer in a house built about 1900, never again!

I drove down to Dallas and back yesterday. Dallas is a real big city, and very spread out. We had some business there and everyone was very nice. We near the Highland Park area which was very beautiful. We ate at a place called Rockfish Grill. The waiter told us that it was a chain, but I had never been there before. The seafood was delicious.

The traffic is bad in Dallas. I had to drive east out of Dallas at 5:30 pm on 635 to go north on 75. I live near Holdenville now. The traffic was very congested, but everyone was polite about changing lanes. If you put your turn signal on someone would let you in. That is a lot different than other big cities I have driven in. The congestion continued until McKinney. I would say Dallas drivers are pretty good though.

If I had to live in a city, I would choose Oklahoma City.

My favorite restaurant in Dallas is Javier's - you were close to it, too.

I could only imagine how spread out OKC would be if it had 6 million people, yikes! I'm sure we'd be the geographical size of Dallas with maybe just 3 times our population. It's a bit denser down there.

Smile OKC herding cattle

Dallas has a pop of 1,188,580 not 6 mil (I dont even think its metro is that size). OKC has become urbanized with its NEW face. A lot of private and public development has caused many to move back downtown....the pop #s can be misleading in relation to area because of the urban density.

Urban density exists because people have to understand the density within certain perimeters to allow for development to take place. Any big business that moves into an area/city does an evaluation of urban density so they dont make mistakes with their judgement calls. It makes a lot of sense when you have a lot of money and need exact descriptions to make proper investments. OKC has 3 times the amount of land or way more than Dallas.

Is the Pop spread out equally in OKC?....No. Think of a rancher and his cows....The rancher might have a huge amount of land....But the cows do not equally disperse to all corners of his land. They form a pack...the larger the pack gets the more the pack extends into unknown land. Houston or Jacksonville are good examples of what OKC will eventually become in the distant years.

Thankfully, many efforts to herd the cattle are taking place to re establish the 'pack' back to the center of the ranch, where the rancher lives, until the pack is large enough to expand outwards. This makes the cows live in a more confined territory causing the herd to become more sophisticated.
