Thanks. I've looked at Greatschools.com a lot! But, I've never seen a state ranking. I did find the state records on ACT scores.

Edmond is a great place to live with many pretty areas. You can find homes in your price range in any of the high school districts. An important thing to remember is traffic. North Edmond has many stop signs as opposed to lights and the traffic can be killer. It's also nice to be near I-35 and the Turnpike.

My kids are not yet in H.S. but we bought in the Memorial district based on what our teachers told us. Memorial is supposedly the most diverse from a socioeconomic perspective, with a large number of middle class students. North has more upper and lower but not as many middle. Not sure about Santa Fe.

Traffic near Santa Fe can be awful. Also, the east side of Edmond is very pretty and well-established.

The school district is open based on availability at the individual schools. That said, you must have your district school fill out paperwork by a specified date, turn it in to the superintendent's office and the school you are applying for must accept. I've done this for my oldest son who is in middle school two years in a row. His middle school feeds into Memorial. Also if you go out of district you must provide transportation. Whereas within district, buses are available.

Hope this helps. This decision was a major one for us.

Thanks Edmond Native! That's the kind of info I was looking for. But I don't understand the part about applying to the school in your district. Do you mean my child may not get to go to the high school in the district we live in? What's the criteria for getting accepted? From the data I've read Memorial is the one we are leaning toward but possibly North if we could live in the southern part of North's district and close to I-35.

Your child will always be able to go to the school in the Edmond district you live in. If you want to transfer to North, you have to apply and it depends on whether there is space available.

Who knows, Peggy Davis is correct. You will always be able to attend the school in your district. Transfers depend on availability at the school where you would like to transfer.

Good luck! From what I understand most schools in Edmond and Deer Creek are very good. My priorities, besides good schools, are trees and hills, manageable traffic, proximity to highways (not too close) and proximity to shopping (not too close).

We are very happy here.

My family is relocating to Edmond this summer, I have a 15 year so I am highly interested in High Schools, we are from Kwajalein in the Marshall Islands, her graduating class if we stayed would be apprx. 32 teenagers..........I realize I am never going to find those numbers....I just want a small community with the store, bank, High school, Church, not far from each other....are there any neighborhoods like that...pool is a must as she was on the swim team for several years. I am looking in the $175-200K range home.

Tcotton, sounds like you would like the Deer Creek area or perhaps even Piedmont. Deer Creek is rapidly growing but has newer houses available and isnt too close to the major metro areas but again not too far. I live in far north Edmond in the Deer Creek area and it takes me about 15-20 min to get to Edmond for shopping. The area around the Deer Creek highschool... which is more or less the township of Deer Creek does have a convient store/gas station, a couple of churches and maybe even a bank (or atleast an ATM in the highschool parking lot).

Piedmont is what Deer Creek used to be, a smaller school district but with a store, bank, church and such within town. I am not sure what the housing is like and if there are any new developments.

Deer Creek and Edmond do not have pools that accommodate sport swimming. Edmond's is just a play ground in water...more or less.. and I dont think Deer Creek even has one. One of the Edmond schools may... they didnt when I went to Santa Fe, though they planned for one I dont know if that has happened yet.

I don't think Piedmont has a pool either..

Thanks so much prerunner1982..........for a while I thought my post fell on "death ears" ...my daughter has been looking at Santa Fe, so we started looking at houses in the area........would you say that school and area is "diverse" my child has been in Hawaii and the Marshall Islands for over half her life and is so use to all different type of people and friends from around the world.......would you say Santa fe school district or area offers that? I just want my child to be happy and I know that comes from within, but at that tender age friends and their social group is very important. I can live pretty much anywhere.....I want her to get ready for college in two years and over here there aren't many options. any info from your perspective would be great.
